Beverly Hills may form a committee to book musical acts for two open dates in the 2027 Concerts on Cañon season. The Arts and Culture Commission discussed the proposal at its Tuesday, Oct. 13 meeting in City Hall Room 280A.
Senior Recreation Supervisor Paul Paolone and Recreation Services Manager Matthew Brown presented the idea, according to the commission's agenda. The Ad Hoc Committee, if formed, would help identify prospective performers for two dates in the 12-concert summer lineup not yet filled through the regular application process.
Official minutes have not been published.
The free outdoor series, now in roughly its 24th or 25th year, runs every Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. during June, July and August at Beverly Canon Gardens, 241 North Canon Drive. The city received 50 applications for the 2026 season, as first reported by the Beverly Hills Courier. The 2026 season carried a $57,000 budget for 12 concerts.
Musicians interested in the 2027 season can apply starting Monday, Nov. 30. The application window closes Friday, Feb. 26, 2027, with artists to be notified by April 2, 2027. The season is scheduled to begin the first Thursday of June.
The commission adopted performer selection criteria in December 2025. Talent, or "it factor," carries 50 percent of the weight, followed by popularity at 20 percent and genre at 15 percent. Availability counts for 10 percent and local Beverly Hills artist preference for 5 percent. Performers are limited to two consecutive seasons before a one-year hiatus.
At the commission's Sept. 8 meeting, Commissioner Pamela Beck floated the idea of dedicating a night to newer acts. "Maybe you experiment with next season. It's one special night that kind of gets a light on it so that people are more aware of it," Beck said at the time, as reported by the Beverly Hills Courier.
The Tuesday, Oct. 13 agenda also listed a City Council Proclamation for National Arts and Humanities Month, dated Oct. 20, and updates on the Festival Beverly Hills Work Plan from Recreation Supervisor Corrina Lesser.
The commission's next meeting is Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 10 a.m. in City Hall Room 280A.
