Families looking for a free, no-hassle summer activity have four chances to catch magician Billy Bonkers at the Beverly Hills Public Library this month.
The library is hosting its "Terrific Tuesdays" series with Bonkers performing hour-long magic shows every Tuesday in July, starting Tuesday, July 7, and continuing July 14, July 21, and July 28, according to the library's summer calendar. Each date offers two identical showtimes: 1:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. in the library's auditorium at 444 N. Rexford Drive.
No registration required. No tickets. Just pick a showtime and walk in.
Families can call (310) 288-2244 to confirm upcoming dates or ask about other summer programs.
Bonkers, a British-born performer based in Southern California, bills himself as "SoCal's only (and therefore best) British kids and family magician." His shows run about an hour and lean heavily on audience participation, with children pulled into the act as volunteers. He performs regularly at public libraries across the region, including the Los Angeles Public Library and San Diego County Library, where event listings describe his act as fast-paced, heavy on comedy, and built around kid volunteers.
The Terrific Tuesdays series is part of the library's broader summer programming, which also includes a Summer Reading Club and Children's Storytimes for toddlers ages 1 to 3. The library's Tween & Teen Summer Reading Club meets Wednesdays from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m., with the next session on Wednesday, July 15.
