Jamie Bumia will take charge of Beverly Hills' youth sports leagues, aquatics programs, and park facilities when she starts as the city's new Director of Community Services on Monday, August 17.

The city announced Bumia's appointment on Tuesday, July 15. She replaces Stephanie Harris, who was promoted to Assistant City Manager in July.

Bumia's department oversees five divisions — Administrative Support, the Beverly Hills Public Library, Park Rangers, Arts & Culture, and Recreation & Parks. The last is the one most familiar to local athletes and families: it runs programming for youth ages 5 to 14, teens 14 to 17, adult sports leagues, aquatics, and special events out of its offices at 444 N. Rexford Drive.

"I am deeply grateful to Ryan, Stephanie and the City Council for the confidence they have placed in me to serve as the next Director of Community Services," Bumia said in the city's announcement. "This is truly the highlight of my professional career, and I look forward to working with the incredible Community Services staff as we continue to provide world-class programming and activities in Beverly Hills."

Bumia comes to Beverly Hills from the City of Walnut in the San Gabriel Valley, where she has served as Community Services Director since 2024. She joined Walnut in 2021 as Community Services Superintendent, rose to Deputy Director in 2023, and took the top job a year later. Before Walnut, she held recreation positions with Monrovia, Claremont, and Fontana.

She holds a bachelor's degree from San Diego State University and an MBA from the University of La Verne. She also sits on the board of the California Parks and Recreation Society.

City Manager Ryan Gohlich praised Bumia's breadth of experience, saying her work across several Southern California cities prepared her to lead Beverly Hills' "dedicated Community Services team and the award-winning programs that make Beverly Hills so special."

Bumia inherits a department that has seen multiple leadership changes in 2026. Christopher Paulson was promoted to Assistant Director of Community Services earlier in the year, Adrine Ovasapyan was named Deputy Director in March, and Harris's elevation to Assistant City Manager created the vacancy Bumia now fills. Ovasapyan directly oversees the Youth Recreation division and serves as the city's liaison to the Joint Powers Agreement with Beverly Hills Unified School District and local youth sports organizations.

Bumia's first day is Monday, August 17. No public introduction event or City Council presentation has been announced.
