The 400 block of North Rexford Drive transforms into a free block party Tuesday, August 4, when the Beverly Hills Police Department hosts its annual National Night Out from 5 to 8 p.m.
It's the first National Night Out for Chief Max Subin, a 27-year BHPD veteran who took command on June 27. "I'm excited to welcome our community to my first National Night Out as Chief of the Beverly Hills Police Department," Subin said in a July 29 press release. "This event celebrates the partnerships that make our city so strong."
The Beverly Press describes the Beverly Hills event as among the largest National Night Out gatherings in the area. Here's what families should know before heading out.
What's on display
BHPD is rolling out its SWAT Truck, BearCat armored vehicle, and Mobile Command Center alongside vintage police and fire vehicles. The department's Real Time Watch Center will demonstrate its drone technology, and attendees can meet K-9 units and snap photos with support dog Nami at a dedicated photo booth.
Inside the Quake Cottage, visitors can experience what an earthquake feels like firsthand. Residents can also meet 911 dispatchers, Jail Bureau staff, and Crime Lab personnel at interactive booths.
Family activities
Kids and parents can expect carnival games, face painting, balloon art, character performers, arts and crafts, defensive tactics demonstrations, and giveaways. DJ Keybo provides live music, and food trucks will line the block. The Beverly Hills Public Library, located on the same block, will offer storytime sessions during the event.
Nonprofits and partners
Participating organizations include CERT, JUST IN CASE BH, Beverly Hills CPR, the Drug Awareness Foundation, the Children's Burn Foundation, and the Beverly Hills Public Library, alongside BHPD and the Beverly Hills Fire Department.
Getting there
Road closure: The 400 block of North Rexford Drive closes from 1 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, August 4. A soft closure affecting traffic in the area may begin as early as noon.
Parking: Free after 5 p.m. at the Civic Center Garage, 450 N. Rexford Drive.
Cost: Free and open to the public.
