The Beverly Hills Police Department will close off the 400 block of North Rexford Drive on Tuesday, August 4, for National Night Out, a free evening of public safety demonstrations, food trucks, live entertainment, and hands-on displays open to all residents.

The event runs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Civic Center. Parking is available in the Rexford/Civic Center lot, according to the city's event page.

It will be Chief Max Subin's first National Night Out at the helm of the department. Subin, a 27-year BHPD veteran who joined the department in 1999, took over as chief on June 27, one day after Mark Stainbrook's retirement. He leads 154 sworn officers and 112 civilian staff.

"I am deeply grateful for the trust placed in me by our city leadership, our personnel, and our community," Subin said on June 27, when the city announced his appointment. "Together, we will ensure that the safety of Beverly Hills remains priority number one."

The city's event page lists public safety demonstrations, live entertainment, food trucks, and interactive displays, though specific units, vendors, and activities remain subject to change based on operational needs. At last year's National Night Out on August 5, 2025, the BHPD featured SWAT and K-9 unit displays, a Motor Unit showcase, a police training scenario simulator, inflatable slides, and a kids' playhouse, according to a department Facebook post.

The event is free.

It comes as the department reports a significant drop in property crime. BHPD's first-quarter 2026 statistics showed burglaries fell 50% compared to the same period in 2025, from 60 incidents to 30. Motor vehicle theft dropped 71%, from 28 to eight. The department credited targeted enforcement, increased patrol visibility, and collaboration with the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office.

National Night Out is organized nationally by the National Association of Town Watch and takes place on the first Tuesday of August each year.

Subin's public swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for Monday, August 10, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Beverly Hills City Hall, 455 N. Rexford Drive. Residents who want to connect with the department can attend either event at no cost.
