Sixteen-foot jewel-encrusted wreaths, 12-foot gemstone sculptures, and overhead garland spans would light up Rodeo Drive this holiday season under a $561,358 proposal presented at a Beverly Hills City Council liaison committee meeting Tuesday, June 30.

Community Services Manager Magdalena Davis Jones brought the gemstone-themed design to Mayor Craig Corman and the vice mayor at the meeting in City Hall Room 280A. The concept draws on the phrase "Rodeo Drive is the gem of Beverly Hills" and ties into the Rodeo Drive Committee's 50th anniversary celebration, which the city is marking beginning in 2026. The committee was founded in 1977 by Fred Hayman.

The proposed budget represents a roughly 13% increase over last year's $497,652 program. The bump comes largely from a new $31,398 line item: four overhead garland wreath spans crossing the street at Wilshire Boulevard, South Santa Monica Boulevard, Brighton Way, and Dayton Way. Davis Jones wrote in her staff memo that the garlands are meant to "draw eyes upward" past sidewalk construction barricades currently lining portions of Rodeo Drive.

Five 16-foot platform vignettes would line the median, each with a distinct color palette. One features a Hanukkah theme with an LED menorah in silver and blue. Two electroplated gemstone sculptures — a sapphire and a ruby on gift-box bases — would anchor the median's endcaps at up to 12 feet tall, designed to pull pedestrians onto the block from adjacent streets.

The décor would be on display from Thursday, November 19, 2026, through Saturday, January 3, 2027. Overnight installation is scheduled for November 11–15 to avoid disrupting merchants. J. Ben Bourgeois Productions, the city's holiday décor vendor since 2019, would handle production. Funding comes from Beverly Hills' Transient Occupancy Tax tourism and marketing budget.

Two optional upgrades were also presented: thicker garland with additional ornaments for $23,058, and custom icicle dripping lights on the Wilshire and South Santa Monica spans for $12,340. Both require further review by city engineers.

Tuesday's meeting was a design review only. Banner designs and the Holiday Lighting Celebration event proposal will return to the liaisons at a future date before going to the full City Council for approval. No vote date has been set.
