Beverly Hills High School's fall athletes are back in pads, swimsuits and running shoes after BHUSD students returned to campus Wednesday, Aug. 12, launching the 2026-27 season for the Normans' football, cross country, water polo and volleyball programs.
The first test arrives fast.
BHHS football hosts Centennial on Friday, Aug. 28, at 7 p.m. in a Week 1 matchup, according to a Facebook event listing for the game. The CIF Southern Section opens its football calendar with Week 0 on Aug. 21, giving the Normans just two weeks of preseason work before live competition.
All four fall varsity squads compete in the CIF Southern Section Ocean League, where Principal Loan Sriruksa's school fields teams in orange and black on the 19.5-acre Moreno Drive campus.
Nike deal, new facilities reshape campus
Athletes suiting up this fall will do so in Nike apparel after the BHUSD Board of Education approved a five-year deal with the brand in May 2025, according to the Beverly Press. The agreement covers student athletes across all sports.
Meanwhile, the campus is mid-transformation. The Konheim Athletic Building is on track for completion by December 2026, and the $31 million South Site Athletic Fields project will deliver a new football stadium, track and baseball field through most of 2027, according to the Beverly Hills Courier. The bond-funded construction program, once projected to run more than $100 million over budget, is now expected to finish roughly $5 million under budget.
Football and cross country athletes will share space with active construction zones this season while the South Site work continues around them. The Grand Lawn, which opened in late April 2026 with Mayor Craig Corman, Vice Mayor Mary Wells and Councilmembers John Mirisch and Lester Friedman in attendance, gives the campus a new central gathering space for fall pep rallies and pre-game events.
What to watch
Preseason schedules for volleyball, water polo and cross country have not yet been published by the BHHS athletics department, which posts its full calendar, clearance forms and game tickets online. Families can check the site for updates as league play approaches in September and October.
