Campaign lawn signs for Beverly Hills Unified School District (BHUSD) board candidates have been stolen, the Beverly Hills Courier reported Thursday, Sept. 10.

Multiple candidates in the five-way race for two open seats on the Board of Education reported the thefts, according to the Courier. Which candidates were affected, how many signs were taken, and whether police reports were filed have not been publicly confirmed.

Five candidates are competing in the Nov. 3 election: incumbent Board President Judy Manouchehri, attorney Jackie Kruger, paralegal and parent Kim Lifschitz, attorney David Cienfuegos and teacher Jared Gonzales. The two seats up for election are held by Manouchehri and Board Member Rachelle Marcus, who is not seeking reelection after two terms.

The field took shape after the candidacy filing period closed Aug. 7. Kruger and Lifschitz held a joint kickoff event in early September. In an Aug. 13 Beverly Press profile of all five candidates, Kruger said, "Beverly Hills voters deserve a board that follows its own rules and answers to the community, not one that rewrites bylaws to concentrate power …"

Kruger, a second-generation Beverly Hills resident and Beverly Hills High School graduate, has two children attending BHUSD schools and one district graduate. She was among a group of parents who launched a recall effort against Board Members Russell Stuart and Sigalie Sabag in 2025 following the resignation of former Superintendent Michael Bregy. The recall was ultimately dropped.

Cienfuegos, a managing partner at a personal injury law firm, served two years on Horace Mann Elementary School's Principal's Advisory Council, chairing it during the 2025-26 school year. Lifschitz is a parent of a special education student at Horace Mann and has served on the PTA executive board. Gonzales teaches seventh- and eighth-grade math at Yavneh Hebrew Academy in West Los Angeles and previously taught at Harkham Hillel Hebrew Academy in Beverly Hills.
