About 1,200 guests in head-to-toe white filled the grounds of Beverly Hills City Hall on Saturday, Aug. 1, as Dîner en Blanc returned to Los Angeles for the first time since 2019.

The invitation-only pop-up dinner, which keeps its location secret until shortly before guests arrive, had not staged an LA edition in seven years. Its last local installment was the sixth, held Oct. 12, 2019. Beverly Hills was among the first U.S. cities to host the 2026 season, according to the Beverly Press.

Beverly Hills City Councilwoman Sharona Nazarian was among the guests. In a Facebook post Aug. 2 that drew 11,000 views, she described the city transforming into "a beautiful sea of white" as the sun set over City Hall and Crescent Drive.

The night was a first for the LA edition in another way.

This year's global theme, "Une Soirée Parisienne – La Belle Époque," channeled turn-of-the-century Parisian elegance. Guests brought their own folding tables, white chairs, white tablecloths, fine china and gourmet meals. For the first time in the event's LA history, a celebrity chef also offered a catered option: four-time James Beard Award winner Todd English created exclusive dinner offerings for attendees.

English, an inductee into the James Beard Foundation's "Who's Who in Food and Beverage in America," is a restaurateur, author and television personality who has previously served as chef for large-scale events including Dinner in White, according to TotalFood.

Entertainment included live music, tarot readings and live portrait artists. The evening's signature moment came when all 1,200 guests waved white cloth napkins in unison to signal the start of dinner.
