The Beverly Hills Public Library is expanding its "Greystone in the Movies" series with two additional Thursday evening screenings at Greystone Mansion in August, on Thursday, August 20 and Thursday, August 27.
Both events run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the mansion's restored 34-seat theatre, 905 Loma Vista Drive. Film titles for the two dates have not yet been announced, according to the library's event calendar.
The screenings follow the series' Thursday, August 13 installment, which will feature "There Will Be Blood" with a tour of locations inside the mansion used during the 2007 film's production.
The series showcases films with a connection to Greystone and, when possible, includes a guided tour of the areas used during filming before the screening begins, according to the city's program page. Tickets are nonrefundable, and no food or beverages are permitted inside the theatre.
A mansion built for the movies
Greystone's ties to Hollywood run deep. Architect Gordon Kaufmann's original 1928 drawings labeled the upstairs room a "Motion Picture Theatre," meaning the Doheny family had a private cinema built into the 55-room Tudor Revival estate from the start.
The City of Beverly Hills purchased the property in 1965 and leased it to the American Film Institute through 1982. Since then, the mansion has appeared in more than 100 productions, from "The Big Lebowski" and "Spider-Man" to "The Social Network" and "Star Trek Into Darkness," according to the estate's filming permits page.
The city completed a full restoration of the theatre in spring 2020, preserving the historic woodwork, original sconces, and footlights while adding state-of-the-art cinema equipment. The project won the 2021 ENR Regional Best Project Award of Merit for renovation and restoration.

Self-guided "Inside the Mansion" tours of the first floor and restored theatre are offered the first Saturday or Sunday of each month, with timed tickets at 11 a.m., noon, 1 p.m., and 2 p.m.
