Beverly Hills, Bel Air and Holmby Hills residents who want a mail ballot for the Nov. 3 general election must register to vote by Monday, Oct. 19.
Dean Logan, Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk, issued the reminder in an Oct. 16 county announcement. LA County sends mail-in ballots to all registered voters.
Residents who miss the Oct. 19 cutoff can still cast a ballot in person at any Vote Center in Los Angeles County starting Saturday, Oct. 24. California also allows same-day voter registration at polling locations and county elections offices for those who register or re-register fewer than 15 days before an election, according to the state's online registration portal.
Voters can verify their registration status and update their information at lavote.gov/vrstatus. Paper registration forms are available at libraries, Department of Motor Vehicles offices, and Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk branch offices across the county.
Wildfire-displaced voters
Residents temporarily displaced by the 2025 wildfires do not need to change their registration, according to the county announcement. They can keep their permanent home address on file and add a temporary mailing address to receive election materials. That step preserves their original voting districts, so they still vote on local measures affecting their home community.
More details are available at lavote.gov/recovery.
If a displaced resident has permanently relocated and registers at a new address, their voting districts may change, affecting which contests and measures appear on future ballots, the county's recovery page states.
Translated ballot materials
The Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk provides translated election materials in 18 languages, according to the county announcement. Voters can request materials in their preferred language by returning the Language Request Form on the back of their Sample Ballot Book or by calling (800) 815-2666, option 3. Spanish-speaking voters can also call (213) 358-2701 for direct help.
At a Sept. 30 roundtable in Washington, D.C., hosted by the Partnership for Large Election Jurisdictions, Logan said he expected changes in how voters return their ballots. "… The drop boxes will become critically important," Logan said at the event, as reported by Central Bucks News. "And I do think that we will see a higher rate of in-person voting in the election."
Residents can register online at registertovote.ca.gov through the Oct. 19 deadline.
