Beverly Hills High School's girls volleyball team landed at No. 146 in the CIF Southern Section's first computer rankings of the 2026 season, released Tuesday, Sept. 8.

The Normans carry a 5-3 record and a power rating of 7.1268, according to Sports Illustrated's published breakdown of the rankings data posted on the CIF-SS rankings page. That places them second among Ocean League teams, behind Culver City at No. 118 (5-7, 7.3892) and ahead of Santa Monica at No. 174 (3-1-1, 6.9114).

The rest of the Ocean League trails further back. Leuzinger sits at No. 332, Hawthorne at No. 337 and Inglewood at No. 384.

How the rankings work

The CIF Southern Section, the governing body for high school athletics in Southern California, uses a competitive equity model to seed its playoff brackets. The system ranks teams on current-season results, factoring in wins, losses, strength of schedule and win differential. It replaced an older model that relied on school enrollment, geography and two years of historical data to slot teams into divisions before a season started.

Playoff divisions are set by final rankings, not initial ones. The CIF-SS updates the rankings weekly.

Key dates

The regular season runs through Wednesday, Oct. 14. Playoffs open Tuesday, Oct. 20, with CIF Finals scheduled for Nov. 5 through Nov. 7. The postseason featured 10 divisions in 2025; the number of divisions for 2026 has not been announced.

Sierra Canyon tops the initial rankings at No. 1 with a 13-0 record and a 10.2332 power rating. Harvard-Westlake checks in at No. 8 (8-4, 9.2466).
