Bel Air and Holmby Hills residents heading south on I-405 face a second straight weekend of major lane reductions starting at 10 p.m. Friday, July 24, with southbound Interstate 405 squeezed to just two lanes through the Sepulveda Pass until 5 a.m. Monday, July 27.

Caltrans is warning drivers to expect heavy congestion between Van Nuys and Westwood and to consider alternate routes or public transit.

What's closing

The 55-hour construction window brings four specific restrictions, according to a Caltrans District 7 press release:

  • Southbound I-405 reduced to two lanes through the U.S. 101 connectors
  • Burbank Boulevard on-ramp to southbound I-405 closed
  • Northbound I-405 off-ramp to Getty Center Drive closed
  • Northbound U.S. 101 connector to southbound I-405 closed

Northbound I-405 lanes will remain fully open.

The local impact

The Getty Center Drive off-ramp closure hits closest to home for Bel Air residents who use it to access Sepulveda Boulevard and local canyon roads. Drivers coming from the San Fernando Valley via northbound U.S. 101 who normally connect to southbound I-405 will need to exit at Sepulveda Boulevard, head south, and re-enter the freeway at the Sepulveda Boulevard on-ramp to southbound I-405.

Caltrans also warned that residents and businesses near the construction zone should expect noise, ground vibrations, and dust throughout the weekend.

Second weekend in a row

This is the second consecutive weekend of full southbound lane reductions. The first ran from 10 p.m. Friday, July 17, through 5 a.m. Monday, July 20. Both closures are part of the $143.7 million I-405 Pavement Rehabilitation Project, which is resurfacing the freeway between Van Nuys and Westwood.

The Bel Air Hills Association has been notifying residents about Sepulveda Pass weekend closures throughout 2026, including work windows in February, April, and July.

Caltrans has not announced a third weekend closure beyond Monday, July 27. The schedule remains subject to change due to weather or operational delays.
