The Beverly Hills Police Department plans to turn its headquarters into a Halloween destination on Wednesday, Oct. 28, with a haunted house and trick-or-treating open to the community.
The event runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the department's Boat Court on the ground level at 464 N. Rexford Drive, according to a department flyer reported by the Beverly Hills Standard. Costumes are required.
Parents should note: the haunted house is built to scare. The department recommends it for children and teens ages 10 and older.
Younger kids can still trick-or-treat at the event, but the haunted house carries the age advisory. The flyer does not specify whether a separate, less intense experience will be available for younger children.
BHPD will also sell Pink Patches at the event to support breast cancer research. The Pink Patch Project is a nationwide law enforcement fundraiser that has raised more than $1.5 million worldwide since its founding. The program traces its roots to the Seal Beach Police Department, which wore pink patches in 2013. Patch sales began in 2015, when the Irwindale Police Department raised more than $20,000 for City of Hope.
Beverly Hills officers wear the pink patches on their uniforms during October as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The department's Community Relations Unit has previously partnered with the Beverly Hills Police Officers Association on patch sales, with proceeds in a prior year going to breast cancer research at Cedars-Sinai.
Residents who want to make a donation can email acting public information officer Audra Alatorre at [email protected].
The department's flyer states that RSVPs will be sent out in mid-October, though it does not include a registration link or instructions for requesting one. The flyer also cautions that event details may change or the event may be canceled because of police activity or emergencies.
